Good News Story – A Dynamic Partnership

At Zest, we believe that when we work together, we are better. It’s a partnership built on shared values and common goals. We spend the time getting to know our clients so that we can provide a better match. Sydney support worker Sristi and client Kajol’s partnership is an example of Zest’s ability in making sure the person working with you, is the right person to achieve your goals.

Kajol is a loving, bubbly young 21-year-old. Her journey with Zest began 3 years ago and has been supported by Sristi in achieving her goals of domestic assistance and community access. Our team understands Kajols goals and has set up a support partnership that is matched to her needs and personality. During her visits 3 times a week, Sristi works with Kajol on helping her improve her socialisation and speech, personal care and cooking. They love singing songs together – their time is full of laughter and jokes.

As Kajol’s mother Sudha says “It’s a happy and joyful atmosphere when they are together. They have similar taste in Bollywood music – which is always a conversation starter.”

Kajol has come along way since Sristi’s persistence and efforts to help her with socialisation and speech. It’s been a significant improvement as Kajol limited her verbal interactions with only her family, a few friends and workplace colleagues. This has led to across the board benefits in Kajol interacting with others in the community and leapfrogging her social skills. Her confidence levels have soared and she’s really happy with her achievements.

“I had goosebumps when she first spoke to me directly – it was like a Christmas present,” says Sristi.

So why does this relationship work so well? In Sudha’s words “It’s the shared warmth and way Sristi interacts with Kajol on a one to one basis and not like a person living with a disability. It would be very hard to replace Sristi. She is very dynamic.”

It’s inspiring and rewarding to see real life examples of the dedicated work the Zest team achieves in facilitating and forming partnerships, and the success is achieving our client’s goals.

We look forward to seeing what is next for Kajol and Sristi as they continue their journey together.
