60 Seconds With A Support Worker: Sharon

Our Support Workers are extremely dedicated to meet the needs and wants of our clients, day in and day out. This month we spoke with Sharon, who is VCP support worker expressing her love for her job giving her the opportunity to impact people’s lives in a positive way.

Full name? Sharon Coles

What’s your job title? Support Worker VCP

How long have you worked at Zest? I have worked for ZEST for approximately five months.

What gets you out of bed in the morning? Usually it’s my cat. She has a tendency to wake me up extremely early in order to go outside. Mind you, I often crawl back into bed once she has been let out.

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional? Becoming a Detective for the NSW Police Force; more specifically, working for the Child Protection Unit (JIRT) as a Detective. I was proud to serve as a Police Officer, a Detective, and thoroughly enjoyed my time in the NSW Police Force. I am also very proud of what I managed to achieve during the time I was there.
What does a typical day look like for you? For me, there is no typical day. Each day is different which keeps life interesting. But I do like to at least like to get some form of exercise/relaxation in whether I walk the dog, go to the gym, or do some trataka meditation.

What three words would you use to describe your role? Complex, Important, Meaningful.

What do you like most about your job? Seeing people realise for themselves that they ‘can do it’.

What is your motto or personal mantra? ‘Step by step’.

What’s your favourite blog or social media account? The ZEST blog of course…:)

Given a chance, who would you like to be for a day? Petrea King. Founder of not for profit organisation ‘Quest for Life Foundation’. An extremely worthwhile and important organisation that among other things, provides hope, relief and healing to serving and former police officers living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder through it’s ‘Moving Beyond Trauma’ and ‘Healing from Trauma’ programs.

What’s your favourite line from a film? “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get”. Forest Gump.

What is your favourite thing about working at Zest? That ZEST gives me the opportunity to impact people’s lives in a positive way, and the subsequent enjoyment I get from this.
