Helping Catherine Live Her Best Life

Danielle Lawson NDIS

For Catherine, working with Zest Care has helped her achieve goals that she’s been trying to work towards for a long time.

“There are things that I’ve always wanted to do…but I would get bogged down and struggle.”

Catherine – who grew up on a farm near Bowral but has lived in Castle Hill for twenty years – has a mental illness and learning disabilities which make her daily routine challenging. Her Zest Care Support Workers are able to assist her in accomplishing her goals.

One of these goals is cooking – an activity she absolutely loves to do.

“Zest Care help me make things for dinner. A main meal and a dessert usually. We also go out and they help me with shopping.”

Catherine has lots of hobbies and loves engaging in new things. She took a TAFE course in millinery a few years ago and now makes wonderful hats from re-purposed video cassette tapes! She has also taken African Dancing classes, joined a music club and formerly worked for a florist, helping with arrangements for big Sydney hotels.

Another area in which Zest Care have assisted Catherine is with basic computing and phone skills. This has helped Catherine become more independent.

Catherine’s work in her local church is also very important to her. She is very involved and takes great joy from helping other people.

“I really feel that all the patterns in my life have woven together like knitting. It’s been challenging at times but also rewarding.”

That’s music to our ears. We love being able to assist Catherine achieve her goals. It’s always good news when one of our participants is being supported to live the life that they want – on their own terms.
