60 Seconds With A Support Worker: Sarra

Danielle Lawson In The Spotlight

Our Vulnerable Children’s Program is a fantastic initiative which helps families out at difficult times. Sarra Ghobrial is one of the amazing Family Support Workers making our crisis work possible. Here’s a little bit more about her and the work she does.

How long have you worked at Zest?

Approximately 6 months.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

When I have a shift it’s the determination to help the family I will be working with that day. Of course, my alarm and coffee help as well!

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

I would have to say that one of my most memorable achievements was when I wrote, produced and directed a large production about Anzac Day for the community and some government representatives who were visiting our church.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I usually wake up and have a coffee, shower and get ready for my day. I’ll either be working or at uni, studying for my Master’s Degree in Social Work. I then come home, have dinner and do some self-care (usually a face mask with a glass of wine)!

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Rewarding, challenging, diverse.

What do you like most about your job?

To be honest, everything! This amazing opportunity we have to help others in their most vulnerable time is humbling. It helps to widen your perspective and understanding of the situations other people are in and helps you to become more appreciative of your own life.

What is your motto or personal mantra?

I have a few, haha! One of my favourite people is Mother Teresa and I feel like everything she said and did can be applied to every setting – “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier”. I am also a major Harry Potter fan, so of course, Albus Dumbledore’s wisdom is life – “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live” (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone).

What’s your favourite blog or social media account?

I’m currently into food (I love making recipes from Tasty) and beauty accounts on Instagram, particularly Chloe Morello.

Given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?

My future self, on graduation day with my Master’s! So that way I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

What’s your favourite line from a film?

Ooooh… I love movies, so one line is not enough! I love this one from Beauty and the Beast – “She warned him not to be deceived by appearances, for beauty is found within.”

And from Rocky, “It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”(Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa).

What is your favourite thing about working at Zest?

Working with an awesome team who are all wonderful and approachable – they keep us motivated and are very understanding! Zest also provides training and great opportunities to expand our professional development. This helps us to improve our skills and better serve the families we are assigned to. I also love the flexibility and the chance to meet new people almost every shift.
