Preparing for Your NDIS Plan Review

Danielle Lawson NDIS

Happy 2018! A new year always brings with it the opportunity to reassess goals and plan for the future. An opportunity which is particularly important when it comes to the NDIS.

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is the Australian Government’s person-centric approach to disability funding which began being rolled out in July 2016. By 2019 it will be fully implemented around Australia.

If you haven’t got your NDIS plan yet, then try and devote some time beforehand taking stock of what you want to achieve before meeting with your Local Area Coordinator. The NDIS planning process will help you assess your current position and where you would like to be.

Your goals will naturally be very personal. You may wish to plan on learning new skills for independence, like Kelly-Anne, who began working with Zest Care last year. Kelly-Anne’s weekly visits from Support Workers have helped her feel more confident in the kitchen and looking after herself.

Thousands of people around Australia already have their NDIS plans. Once you have your First Plan, plan reviews are built into the NDIS Pathway; usually after twelve months to assess whether everything is on track.

When it comes time for your Plan Review, your Local Area Coordinator will:

  • Ask which Supports are working for you (and which are not)
  • Identify your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges
  • Consider your current funded, mainstream, informal and community Supports
  • Think about the goals you want to achieve in the coming year

It’s a great idea to write some ideas down before your Plan Review so that you can get the most out of it.

Whatever your goals this year, Zest Care will be here to support you to start living the life you want, today.
